Spooky season is here! Utah libraries are here to help you make the longer, cooler nights extra special for the little ones in your life. We think it’s time to start the fall tradition of reading together.
Did you know that reading frightening tales can help with children’s emotional and cognitive development? This world can be a scary place. “Scary stories help kids learn how to deal with the real world. They’re a way to acknowledge that life isn’t always easy and learn that it’s OK to be scared…Scary books give us a chance to examine what we’re afraid of, to talk about it, and to shine a light on negative emotions rather than just bury them deep inside” (booktrust.org, 2019).
Join the Utah State Library in creating a safe scary place this season. Throughout October library staff will be sharing some of our favorite chilling stories with you! Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to discover the delightfully haunting, and harmlessly fun tales that send shivers up and down our spines.
