Volunteering to record books and edit for the Utah State Library Blind and Disabled Program is fun – just ask Dave Toronto, who has been a volunteer at USL for 15 years and says it’s so fun to hear feedback from patrons who like the way you read. “I love to read books.” said Dave. “This is a perfect way to get a chance to read some things you’d never think of.” Volunteers record books of regional or local interest and by Utah authors. Dave says it is like a crossword puzzle for him, knowing how to make it interesting using inflection and making it clear.
The library is always looking for volunteers who can come to the state library one or more hours a week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Volunteers can contribute to our library program in ways that are personally rewarding to patrons who are blind or disabled. Our current volunteer opportunities include recording books for our patrons and editing during the recording process. Volunteers read at the library, in state-of-the-art recording rooms.
