The Children's Literature Association of Utah (CLAU) is a volunteer organization that sponsors book awards that motivate reading. Annual awards are given in 5 catagories, including the Utah Young Adults' Book Award. Winners are chosen from the nominated books by the young readers of Utah, who vote for their favorites.
   
   
Printz award medal Michael L. Printz Award
The Michael L. Printz Award is an award given by YALSA for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature. It is named for a Topeka, Kansas school librarian who was a long-time active member of the Young Adult Library Services Association.

In 1950, a consortium of book publishing groups created and sponsored the first annual National Book Awards Ceremony. Their goal was to enhance the public's awareness of exceptional books written by fellow Americans, and to increase the popularity of reading in general. Today, the Awards are given to recognize achievements in four genres, including Young People's Literature.
